2009: Research Continues & Major Site Improvements

Habitat Restoration

HAS initiated major site improvements, starting with repair and extension of the northeast wall bordering the road, and replacement of the existing gate.  Working with Hawai’i native habitat restoration specialists, HAS developed plans for a two- year habitat enhancement project on the upper, flat portion of the Preserve. January through mid-March volunteer activities included removal of invasive plants,  maintenance of nesting burrows, debris removal and trail repairs.
